While some people are geared to get loose and wild at this year’s Malawi Sand Music Festival in Salima, some are all set to limit the consequences of the party animals.

Yes, the 7th edition of the Malawi Sand Music Festival is finally here.

It is an international event which is attended by people from other Southern African countries.

At such casual events, people tend to have fun to the extreme. Letting down their guards, people end up drinking excessively and engage in acts which they would not engage in when sober.

Lots of money is spend on beer, food, accommodation and sex. Being under influence of alcohol, some people end up having unprotected sex.

In its efforts of promoting safe sex, the Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) has come up with two products; Manyuchi Premium Condoms, and back-up Emergency Contraception (EC) Pill, which will be introduced at the festival.

What does it take for one to be regarded as an influential person in the Malawian music industry? Is it having an academic certificate in music studies? Or maybe when one has had a big dominance in terms of having tracks on the local airwaves or producing album which have sold big-time?

Urban Music People (UMP) on October 24, 2017 awarded Tapps Bandawe, a music producer who has worked with both local and international artists, the Life-Time Achievers Award. The recipient were selected by the event’s organizing team.

In my opinion, Tapps Bandawe has indeed achieved a high musical status and perfectly fits to be the receiver of such a prestigious award.. It will be recommended that more that one person receives this type of award.

Apart from looking at personal achievements, i would suggest that the organizers also look at personal efforts applied to make a difference in other individuals. Efforts taken to make known of an artist who is an up-coming one by promoting him/her through conducting shows, sponsoring such an artist with money to cover studio time and also acting as distributor. The organisers should also look into the social work that the musicians do

Tapps Bandawe is an experienced producer and withfinancial capability can make a huge difference in the life of an up-coming musician.
